Sometimes our rooms feel too crowded.
Maybe there’s stuff everywhere. Maybe we don’t even know where to start.
If that’s how you feel ? don’t worry.
You’re not alone, and it can get better!
Here are some simple tips from my experience to help you make your room feel more roomy and cozy.
1. It’s Not the Room… It’s the Stuff
Let’s be honest. Sometimes we just have too much stuff. It’s not about buying new furniture or having a bigger room. It’s about letting go of things we don’t really use anymore. some people call it minimalist ( which is to use only the important stuffs )
- Do you have boxes of books on the floor?
- Are your shelves full of knickknacks or stuffed animals?
- Is your desk covered in dishes or random things?
If yes, then it’s time to clear things out.
You don’t need to throw away everything—just make space by removing things you don’t use or love anymore.
2. Break It Down Into Small Steps
Cleaning a messy room can feel really overwhelming, especially if it’s been like that for years.
So don’t try to do everything in one day!
Instead, try this:
- Pick one small area, like a shelf or a corner.
- Clean that first.
- Take a break.
- Do another spot later.
Little by little, your room will start to feel better.
3. Try the “Box Trick”
This one is simple and super helpful:
- Take all non-important stuff off your shelves, desk, and floor.
- Put them in boxes (even cardboard boxes are fine!).
- Then, only put back the things you really love or use.
You’ll be surprised at how clean and open your room feels!
And guess what? You don’t have to throw everything away.
You can keep the extra stuff in storage, or go through it later when you’re ready.
4. Make Space for What You Actually Use
Ask yourself:
- What do I use at my desk?
- What books do I actually read?
- Where should the cat stuff go?
Find a good place for the things you really need. If something doesn’t have a home, it’s probably time to let it go or pack it away.
5. Keep Your Favorites, Let Go of the Rest
It’s really hard to say goodbye to cute things—like stuffed animals or squishmallows. But if they’re taking up too much space, you don’t have to keep all of them out.
Here’s what you can do:
- Keep your favorite ones in your room.
- Put the rest in a nice storage box.
- OR make a “maybe” box—put some items in there and see if you miss them after a few months.
And a helpful rule: if you’re buying more plushies, try to stick to smaller sizes. Big ones take up a lot of room!
6. Follow Creators Who Get It
If you want more tips, look up videos on TikTok with words like:
- “Clean with me”
- “No-shame cleaning”
- “ADHD cleaning” lol
Some people share amazing cleaning tricks, and they totally understand how hard it can be. Watching them might help you feel more motivated and not alone.
7. Be Kind to Yourself
Sometimes messy rooms come from hard times—like feeling sad or stressed. That’s okay. Cleaning up isn’t just about having a nicer room. It’s about helping yourself feel better too. If it feels too hard, talk to someone. Therapy can help if you’re feeling stuck or holding on to too much from the past.
Final Tip: You Can Do It!
Cleaning your room doesn’t have to be perfect. Just take it one step at a time. The goal is not to have a fancy Pinterest room—it’s to have a space that feels good for you.
You got this. 💪🏽✨
